After surviving an infamous family tragedy, sixteen-year-old Kennedy Jones has made it her mission to keep her brother’s search through the cosmos alive. But then something disturbs the frequency on his radio telescope–a pattern registering where no signal should transmit.
In a neighboring county, seventeen-year-old Nolan Chandler is determined to find out what really happened to his brother, who disappeared the day after Nolan had an eerie premonition. There hasn’t been a single lead for two years until Nolan picks up an odd signal–a pattern coming from his brother’s bedroom.
Drawn together by these strange signals–and their family tragedies–Kennedy and Nolan search for the origin of the mysterious frequency. But the more they uncover, the more they believe that everything’s connected–even their pasts–as it appears the signal is meant for them alone, sharing a message that only they can understand. Is something coming for them? Or is the frequency warning them about something that’s already here?

I have been loving Megan Miranda’s work, spotting one of her books in the bookshop left me grabbing it without a second thought. Imagine my surprise when I started reading this one. I had no idea she wrote young adult books. While I was a little disappointed, I decided to be a true fan and read the book anyway.

Apologies if you were expecting something different – this one is a young adult mystery. The story centres on teens who have suffered tragedy and how they are drawn together in their search for answers and understanding. I cannot wait for Alicia to read this book and share her thoughts.

Megan Miranda has always managed to wow me with her writing. She tells her stories clearly and keeps you guessing as she delivers little clues along the way. Like her adult books, this book is an intriguing read that keeps you guessing.

Kennedy Jones is determined to keep her brother’s search through the cosmos alive, despite the recent infamous family tragedy. When the radio telescope picks up a patterned single that should not exist she is baffled and turns to the internet for answers. At the same time, Nolan Chandler is determined to find the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, even if there have been no leads in two years. When he receives the same single as Kennedy to two find themselves connecting via a chat group. While weary about connecting with online creeps they find themselves meeting, eager to solve the mystery behind the strange signal they received. The more they uncover, the more their stories seem to be connected and their meeting is not just a coincidence.

I do not normally read young adult fiction – unless, of course, Alicia insists that I read a book she enjoyed. This one was an accidental addition to my TBR – I will be more careful next time I grab a familiar author’s book off the shelf.

I do not have a lot of f experience with YA fiction but I found this book intriguing and full of surprises along the way. I found myself eager to see where the story would end and I cannot wait to hear what Alicia has to say about this one.

It was a good read – even if it was not what I was expecting.

Such A Quiet Place

Welcome to Hollow’s Edge, where you can find secrets, scandal, and a suspected killer—all on one street.
Hollow’s Edge use to be a quiet place. A private and idyllic neighborhood where neighbors dropped in on neighbors, celebrated graduation and holiday parties together, and looked out for one another. But then came the murder of Brandon and Fiona Truett. A year and a half later, Hollow’s Edge is simmering. The residents are trapped, unable to sell their homes, confronted daily by the empty Truett house, and suffocated by their trial testimonies that implicated one of their own. Ruby Fletcher. And now, Ruby’s back.
With her conviction overturned, Ruby waltzes right back to Hollow’s Edge, and into the home she shared with Harper Nash. Harper, five years older, has always treated Ruby like a wayward younger sister. But now she’s terrified. What possible good could come of Ruby returning to the scene of the crime? And how can she possibly turn her away, when she knows Ruby has nowhere to go?
Within days, suspicion spreads like a virus across Hollow’s Edge. It’s increasingly clear that not everyone told the truth about the night of the Truetts’ murders. And when Harper begins receiving threatening notes, she realizes she has to uncover the truth before someone else becomes the killer’s next victim.
