I enjoy this author’s work and this is the third of her books I have read. Such a Quiet Place is another gripping read. When reaching for this book you can expect an unusual look at community life, the things people choose to say and the things they keep to themselves. The author explores what happens when we make decisions based on limited knowledge and how far people will go to protect their secrets.
The author tells a gripping story that is full of twists and turns and she slowly reveals bits and pieces along the way keeping you on the edge of your seat from start to end. I love the twists and how you are left questioning everyone’s motivations.
When Harper’s roommate, Ruby Fletcher is convicted of murdering Brandon and Fiona Truett – Harper’s neighbours, she is not convinced that Ruby is guilty. However, there is evidence and everyone else in Hollow’s Edge is convinced Ruby is guilty.
A year and a half later, the neighbourhood is slowly returning to the quiet place it was before the murder, only to have Ruby’s conviction overturned. Ruby’s first stop is Hollow’s Edge – where she moves back into Harper’s house as if nothing has happened. Everyone is scared, everyone is watching and no one wants Ruby around. When Ruby is found murdered Harper realises that something is very wrong and if she does not undercover the truth she just might be the next person facing criminal charges.
This was a brilliant read that I could not drag myself away from. I found myself questioning how much we hide from the people we interact with. How many little secrets do we keep and how often do half-truths affect our decisions?
I loved Ruby Fletcher; the author did a wonderful job with this young woman. I enjoyed how you never got to understand this young woman. She had her faults and she was not always the nicest person, it was impossible to predict how far she was capable of going. She was mysterious and unpredictable making her extremely intriguing. Harper was caught between what she considered to be a good friendship and local rumour. She never knew what to believe and her desire for acceptance often drive her to the wrong conclusions. However, Ruby was keeping a lot from Harper – which left you understanding Harper’s actions.
There were so many twists and turns in this book, I loved it. No doubt when you reach for this book you will find your head spinning as you try to separate fact and rumour. It’s an extremely entertaining read.
If you enjoy a mystery that keeps you guessing then you will love this book. It’s a gripping read that will keep you flipping pages late into the night. I would highly recommend you add this book to your TBR.
