Official Summary

Lisa Gardner is an author whose work I have always enjoyed. I loved the introduction of Frankie Elkin last year in Before She Disappeared and could not wait to get my hands on a copy of One Step Too Far. Sadly, this book has been waiting on my TBR shelf since February and I have only now taken the time to read it. This hardcover has been haunting me and I am annoyed that it took me so long to pull it off the shelf.

If you enjoyed Before She Disappeared, you are going to love this book. In One Step Too Far, Frankie Elkin finds herself heading out on a treacherous hike in search of a man who has been missing for five years. The story adds loads of hiking scenes and glorious scenery along the way. You can expect to find yourself inspired to head off into the wild for a hike of your own when you reach for this title.

Lisa Gardner never disappoints. In this book, she shares a passion for hiking and the outdoors while telling a gripping, twisty tale about the search for a missing hiker. She brings Frankie Elkin, a recovering alcoholic, into the forest where is completely out of her comfort zone and leaves her succeeding where she really should have failed.

On her way to assist in the search of a missing boy, Frankie Elkin spots a newspaper article about a missing hiker in Ramsey. She is immediately intrigued and decides to make a detour to offer her services.

Frankie is not an experienced hiker, making her offer of help, not a welcome one. But Frankie won’t take no for an answer and finds herself joining the search party, despite her inexperience. It is quickly clear that something is amiss. Frankie is left questioning her decision to become involved when strange things start to happen. Will she be able to get off the mountain alive?

If you have ever wanted a hiking adventure wrapped between the covers of a book, then this is the book for you. You will either be left eager to head off into the wild, or you will feel justified for staying far away from the outdoors.

Frankie Elkin is a brilliant character. Her struggle with alcohol is a reminder of how hard it is to walk away from addiction. The author shows these emotions beautifully. I was convinced that Frankie would surrender to the desire in this book, she came so close. I found myself sharing her need for a drink more than once while reading this book. However, Frankie was left taking the second seat to Daisy. The four-legged girl stole the show. Early in the book, you meet Daisy and she is there right to the end. You quickly fall in love with this fur baby as she works her way from chapter to chapter showing off her skills.

There is no doubt that Lisa Gardner has successfully wowed me again. I love her books and this title has flown onto my top ten for the year.

Fans both old and new will find themselves quickly engrossed in this adventurous tale filled with mystery and thrills. You will not go wrong reaching for this book. If you, like me, have this one sitting on your TBR, do not delay, read it! This is a brilliant read and I gladly gave it a five-star rating on Good Reads.
