I Blame Online Shopping!

This book kept popping up on my social media feed and caught my eye immediately. The cover alone ticked all the boxes and grabbed my attention—I absolutely love it. A few clicks later, I had the ebook downloaded. (Of course, now I want a hard copy to proudly add to my bookshelf.)

The story kicks off with English teacher Mr. Danler assigning his senior class a task: write a letter to your future self. What the students don’t know is that he plans to send those letters back to them in twenty years.

The concept of writing a “Dear Future Me” letter isn’t new—we’ve all heard of it—but Deborah O’Connor uses it brilliantly as the foundation for a gripping, twist-filled thriller that keeps you guessing right to the end.

Moments after receiving her letter, Miranda jumps into her car and is later found at the bottom of a cliff. Her best friend Audrey is stunned. Miranda was happy. She would’ve said something if she wasn’t—wouldn’t she?

Desperate for answers, Audrey begins digging into their past and reconnecting with people from high school. She was the invisible one back then, but now she needs her classmates to open up and share their memories of Miranda. The deeper she digs, the more she realises how much she didn’t know—not just about Miranda, but about their entire friendship. Secrets begin to surface, and Audrey is forced to question whether she truly knew her best friend at all.

This book is full of emotion—sadness, grief, and the lingering question of how well we really know the people closest to us. Just when you think things can’t possibly get any worse, O’Connor hits you with a twist that leaves your head spinning.

This is an engrossing story that keeps you hooked from start to finish. I highly recommend adding it to your TBR!

THE CAPTIVE

Hannah knows the cage intimately. Small, the size of a shopping mall parking space. A bed, a basin, a table and chair. A hatch and metal drawer through which to exchange food and other items.
Then there’s him. Always there on the edges of her vision, no matter how hard she tries to block him out.
Every day, the same thoughts run through Hannah’s mind:
What if he speaks to me?
What if he hurts me?
What if he gets out?
