From the throne of glass rules a king with a fist of iron and a soul as black as pitch. Assassin Celaena Sardothien won a brutal contest to become his Champion. Yet Celaena is far from loyal to the crown. She hides her secret vigilantly; she knows that the man she serves is bent on evil.
Keeping up the deadly charade becomes increasingly difficult when Celaena realizes she is not the only one seeking justice. As she tries to untangle the mysteries buried deep within the glass castle, her closest relationships suffer. It seems no one is above questioning her allegiances—not the Crown Prince Dorian; not Chaol, the Captain of the Guard; not even her best friend, Nehemia, a foreign princess with a rebel heart.
Then one terrible night, the secrets they have all been keeping lead to an unspeakable tragedy. As Celaena’s world shatters, she will be forced to give up the very thing most precious to her and decide once and for all where her true loyalties lie… and whom she is ultimately willing to fight for.

After finishing Throne of Glass, I knew I’d enjoy Crown of Midnight, but I had no idea just how much. Right from the start, this book was even better than the first. I think it’s always easier to get into the second book of a series since you already have the world-building.
It’s the second book, and things are heating up. Secret plans are in motion to take down the ruthless king, whispers of rebel alliances are growing, and talk of a long-lost heir to the Terrasen throne, Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, starts filling the air. Some think it’s all just rumours, while others stake their lives on them. But by the end of the book, everything turns into this huge whirlwind of emotions that completely sucks you in—and to me, that’s what makes a book great.
Sarah J. Maas is, in my opinion, a genius. She makes us fall in love, she makes us sigh, she makes us angry, she makes us sad and she puts us through it all in this book. And honestly, I think that’s what makes a book unforgettable. Everyone has their own preferences, of course, but I think this series is the best that she has ever written. I mean you cannot compare this series to ACOTAR, I mean it does not compare.
Dorian, the Crown Prince of Adarlan, is the witty son of an evil king. His personality and his dynamic with Celaena are just perfect. And as much as I love Dorian, I can’t deny how much I enjoyed seeing Celaena’s relationship with Chaol grow—at least in this book, at this point in the story. Even though, let’s be real, some crazy stuff goes down and Celaena has her moments of chaos.
Overall, this book, the second out of seven, completely blew my mind. It made me laugh, sigh, and rage, and it was absolutely fantastic. Worth every single second I spent reading it. I loved it.
