Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

Feyre is a girl who is doing her best to keep her father and two sisters fed and alive. Feyre normally hunts to keep food on the table after her family loses their wealth. However, one day in the forest she kills a wolf who is actually a fae. This leads to Feyre having to pass the wall separating the humans and faeries.

Tamlin, our main male lead and love interest, really wasn’t my favourite. I found his character a bit bland, no offence if he is your favourite character. I found I didn’t hate him but I didn’t love him as much as the author wanted me to.

However, I really liked Rhysand and I know I shouldn’t because he is one of the villains but I couldn’t help it, he had so much depth to his character. I was just sad that he only showed up in the second half of the book.

Speaking of the second half of the book, I must say the first half was slow compared to the second. I found the world-building to be painfully slow and even considered giving up on the book at one point. I am however glad I didn’t because once I got halfway, I couldn’t put it down. It has been a while since a book has had me up at one in the morning.

My favourite character had to be, Feyre. If I am being completely honest I couldn’t stand her at the beginning of the book. It annoyed me how she put her own life in danger multiple times because she did something someone told her not to. However, I think it was when she crossed the wall for the second time by herself, I loved her. She had such amazing character growth. And compared to Amarantha who was just evil you couldn’t help but love Feyre.

Overall I am amazed at the detail that the author put into creating this fictional world. I would defiantly recommend this book.
