This is my fifth K.L. Slater book and without a doubt, Blink is my favourite so far. I found myself lost to the world around me while racing through this book. This story will keep you glued to the pages as you try to find out what happened to Evie and the twists in this book will keep your head spinning. If you have not read any of K.L. Slater’s books before I would suggest you give this one a try. It’s a gripping psychological thriller full of twists and turns.

The author explores the pain a parent suffers when they lose a child, caused not only by the loss of the child but also by the fingers that are pointed at the parent. The blame that is put on a parent when a child disappears can be soul-destroying. This is what this book brings to life spectacularly. She highlights that no one is perfect and when things go wrong the parent’s tiniest mistake is held against them. This book is told in two timelines and from different perspectives allowing you to see events as they unfold which makes this an all-consuming read.

Toni lost her husband and now she is a single mother to five-year-old Evie. Consumed by grief Toni moves house to be closer to the mother who is a wonderful support during this difficult time. While struggling to settle into a new home and a new job Evie is unhappy with her new school adding more pressure on Toni. Then Evie disappears when leaving school and Toni’s world comes crashing down. Now three years later, Toni is convinced that Evie is still alive, but the police seem to have forgotten about her. How do you find your missing child when you are all alone and everyone has given up on her?

I raced through this book, eager to find out what happened to Evie. This little girl steals your heart and I found myself deeply engrossed in the search for her. The author showed that Toni was flawed and that she made mistakes making her realistic.

The author did a brilliant job with the characters in this book. I loved that no one was perfect – but Toni managed to stand out. This woman lost her husband and she is struggling to cope with her grief. She has a five-year-old daughter to look after and she must find a way to remain strong for the sake of her child. Her decisions are terrible, but you can understand them. She knows she is in trouble and she is trying to fix her mistakes. This woman’s agony when Evie goes missing leaves you sharing her pain. The author managed to bring this woman to life for me, and by the time I reached the end of the book, I felt as if I knew her personally.

In case you haven’t picked up on it yet – I will say it – I loved this book. It was a fantastic read. This one has earned a place on my loved list for the year.

If you are keen on a psychological thriller that oozes emotion that will keep you engrossed with all its twists, then you do not want to miss this book. I highly recommend you add this one to your TBR, you will not be left disappointed.
