Wade Darling stands accused of killing his wife and teenage children as they slept before burning the family home to the ground. When the case lands on barrister Neve Harper’s desk, she knows it could be the career making case she’s been waiting for. But only if she can prove Wade’s innocence. A matter of days before the case, as Neve is travelling home for the night, she is approached by a man. He tells her she must lose this case or the secret about her own husband’s disappearance will be revealed. Failing that, he will kill everyone she cares about until she follows orders. Neve must make a choice – betray every principle she has ever had by putting a potentially innocent man in prison, or risk putting those she loves in mortal danger.

After reading Do No Harm back in June 2022, I was curious to see if Jack Jordan could deliver the same level of tension and moral dilemmas in Conviction—and he absolutely did. This book hooked me right from the start and kept me glued to the pages until the very end.

The story follows barrister Neve Harper, who lands what could be a career-defining case: defending Wade Darling, a man accused of murdering his wife and teenage children before setting their home on fire. But just when Neve is preparing to fight for his innocence, her entire world is turned upside down. A stranger confronts her with an ultimatum—lose the case, or her darkest secret about her husband’s disappearance will be exposed. If she doesn’t comply, everyone she loves will be in danger.

What I really enjoyed about this book is the way Jack Jordan blends legal drama with psychological suspense. Neve is such a compelling character—strong, intelligent, and determined, but also deeply flawed and vulnerable. Watching her struggle between her morals, her career, and protecting her loved ones was both intense and heartbreaking. The stakes feel impossibly high, and the tension builds beautifully as the courtroom drama unfolds alongside the personal threats she faces.

Jordan has a talent for creating morally complex situations where there’s no easy way out, and that’s what makes this book so gripping. While Conviction is less medical-thriller-focused than Do No Harm, it still delivers the same nail-biting intensity and unexpected twists that keep you second-guessing everyone’s motives.

Conviction is a tense, twisty, and thought-provoking legal thriller that raises some big questions about morality, loyalty, and how far we’d go to protect the people we love. It kept me hooked from start to finish, and now I’m even more excited to explore more of Jack Jordan’s work.

DO NO HARM

My son has been taken. And I’ve been given a choice…
Kill a patient on the operating table. Or never see him again.

The man lies on the table in front of me.
As a surgeon, it’s my job to save him.
As a mother, I know I must kill him.
You might think that I’m a monster.
But there really is only one choice.
I must get away with murder.
Or I will never see my son again.
I’VE SAVED MANY LIVES.
WOULD YOU TRUST ME WITH YOURS?
