Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can’t move. She can’t speak. She can’t open her eyes. She can hear everyone around her, but they have no idea. Amber doesn’t remember what happened, but she has a suspicion her husband had something to do with it. Alternating between her paralyzed present, the week before her accident, and a series of childhood diaries from twenty years ago, this brilliant psychological thriller asks: Is something really a lie if you believe it’s the truth?

Alice Feeney is an author that has been sitting on my TBR for a while and for some reason I never seem to get around to reading her books. Now that I have finally found the time to dig into this book from 2017, I feel like kicking myself for waiting so long to get to this one.
This psychological thriller was a fabulous read, full of twists and guaranteed to keep you reading late into the night.
The author jumps around in this book, sharing Amber’s thoughts while she is in a coma, her life before her accident and diary entries from twenty years earlier. At times this can feel a little overwhelming as you try to piece the various events together. However, when everything falls into place you are left with a thrilling tale that leaves you amazed by the creativity that went into creating this story.
Amber wakes up in the hospital, only she is not awake. She can feel, hear and smell everything around her, but she cannot move and she cannot communicate. As she struggles to find her way back she has nothing to do but try to remember what happened that landed her in hospital. Is Paul somehow responsible? Amber simply cannot remember. But she is afraid, and she needs to remember.
Time constraints lead to a slow start with this book which left me a little confused, I would suggest making sure you have enough time before reaching for this title. This is a complicated story at the start and there is a lot of various pieces you will need to understand. However, as soon as you are into this story, you will not want to put it down. It’s brilliantly written and delivers various twists that will leave you amazed.
The women in this book are powerful, yet damaged and full of surprise, no one turns out to be who you thought they were. I love them.
I would highly recommend this book to psychological thriller fans. It is creepy, and creative and delivers punch after punch as you flip the pages.
