I have been working through my old reading journal, looking back at the books I read during the late nineties and early two-thousands. I am amazed how many of these stories I still remember. Since I have had so much fun looking back, I am sharing some of these archive reviews, hoping you will enjoy a little blast from the past. Or perhaps be inspired to look back on your own old reads.

This book takes you on a chilling journey through the haunting depths of a mother’s worst nightmare. Nancy Harmon, the protagonist, has successfully escaped the traumas of her past, shedding her former identity to forge a new life in Cape Cid with her second husband and two adored children. However, peace is an elusive companion as the story unfolds with relentless suspense.

The story centres around the sinister shadows of Nancy’s past, as the unspeakable tragedy of losing her first two children to horrific deaths and the subsequent legal accusations cast a shadow over her present happiness. The author creates mystery and tension, leaving you uncertain where the boundaries between reality and nightmare blurs.

Nancy’s newfound peace is shatters by the disappearance of her current children as the story becomes a race against time. The mother’s anguish is brought to life beautifully and you experience Nancy’s desperation as she confronts the possibility that history is repeating itself.

The story is suspenseful and keeps you glued to the pages throughout the novel. The fear, guilt and the primal instinct to protect one’s children, creates a narrative that resonates with emotional intensity. The book explores the fragility of happiness and the scars of a mother’s worst nightmare. Thriller fans will love this spine-tingling tale.
