Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity’s notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn’t expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity’s recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen’s feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife’s words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her

Official Summary

When I finish this book I was honestly left speechless. It had my stomach in knots and my mind going full speed.

This is the third CoHo book that I have read and WOW was this one different from the other two. I feel like the other two were these cute little slice of life romance books and then you get this book. Those autobiography chapters honestly made me nauseous and unable to sleep. I really think we need to do a mental health check on CoHo or more importantly a health check on her children. I mean honestly, she did such an awesome job on this one.

Verity’s character was such an interesting character, super creepy, dark and disturbing but still very interesting. Every time we saw from her point of view it left me with goosebumps. This character honestly had me hooked and I didn’t like that it did. I think the scariest thing was how normal she was perceived and how no one picked up on it and how long she got away with it.

I think my favourite part of this book is that by the end you don’t know who the victim is and who is the villain. It’s a weird open ending. However, in my mind, that last chapter never happened and Verity was the big bad either way. I will say that the last chapter was so much to take in that I think that is what truly made this book.

I do think I found my new favourite book though. I think because this book had me up at night trying to wrap my mind around it. I get the feeling that this book will be in my mind for a while due to how disturbing it is.

Overall I would recommend this book. However, this book is definitely for a more mature audience.

This year I’m doing really well this is my third five out of five stars read.
