Unravel Me – Book Review

By Tahereh Mafi

He’s found me and I’m slipping away and he’s never going to let me go…

Juliette has escaped The Reestablishment. She has found the headquarters of the rebel resistance- and people like her. Gifted people.

She is free from the threat of being used to kill others and free to love Adam, the man who saved her. But Juliette will never be free from her lethal touch. Or from Warner, who wants Juliette more than she ever thought possible. Haunted by her past and terrified of her future, Juliette must choose between her heart- and the life of the one she loves.

Official Summary

In Unravel Me you see Juliette in Omega point dealing with her powers and her relationship with Adam and something she has never had before, freedom. She must come to terms with her past. She slowly starts to trust the people around her and starts to make friends.

In Unravel Me there is the occasional crossed out word here and there and some repetition, but there is not nearly as much as there was in the first book. I noticed that it mostly happens when Juliette is around Warner. You can tell that Juliette is not sure of how to react around Warner and she still does not want to accept how she feels about him.

This book had me feeling a lot of things; it was an emotional roller-coaster. I must admit I never liked Adam in the first book, but in this book, I hate him. It bugged me how many times Juliette had to tell him the same thing and how he never really listens to what she wants. You also cannot help but swoon at every interaction between Warner and Juliette. Juliette annoyed me in this book as well when she said she never wanted to hurt Warner or Adam but then she ended up hurting them both. I know her not being able to make up her mind is the plot of the whole series, but it got a bit annoying when she just would not admit what she wanted.

Kenji! Kenji is the ultimate side character; he brings humour to the book. Without Kenji, this book would have been depressing. With Kenji around you cannot help to laugh at everything he says. Kenji is my favourite character of all time. I love his sarcasm and how much he supports Juliette. I think we all want a Kenji in our lives to lift our spirits like that.

This book is my second favourite in the series, first is still, Destroy me. I loved the character growth, not just from the main characters but also the side characters.

I would recommend this book as a fast, light read.
