Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever.

He has never once been tempted to break those rules…until her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She’s nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed.

Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defences until he’s faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses.

But when her brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.

And as she navigates the intricacies—and treacheries—of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can’t have.

This is the second book in the Twisted series. It is a dual point of view between Bridget and Rhys. Bridget is a princess and she has recently hired a new bodyguard Rhys. There is an undeniable connection between the two but when Bridget’s brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.

I really enjoyed this book but I felt like something was missing and I can’t quite figure out what that is. I think it is because we only really got a plot in the last fifty pages. The rest of the book was just Bridget and Rhys making moon eyes at each other. Also, I did not like how they started disliking each other but not even thirty pages later they liked each other which was annoying because I was hoping for angst. I think I also had a hard time with all the time jumps, it made me sad to think of all the content we missed in that time.

Throughout this book, I was trying to keep up with Ava and Alex’s story in Twisted Love and try to keep up with the timeline of this series, which was hard as I read the first book at the beginning of this year.

I liked Bridget’s character the most, I enjoyed how relatable her character was despite her being a princess and everything. I liked how she never made stupid decisions which made me want to throw the book across the room. I had that with Ava in Twisted Love but Bridgette was a cool character.

I didn’t love Rhys, he was your typical straight-out-of-a-romance novel character, he was a strong alpha male with trauma, so…gross. I didn’t like that the only time we ever found out any sort of information about him it was somehow about his trauma. Like, give me more than that, please. However, I have read worse characters not to name and shame any but cough cough, Alex Volkov.

Overall this book was a solid four stars and I do look forward to reading the next book in the series.
