Meredith Fox has been going to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer as long as she can remember. But this summer is the first one back since the death of Meredith’s sister. It will all be overwhelming, but even more so since the entire extended family will be together for her cousin’s big wedding.

Unfortunately, Meredith’s longtime boyfriend unexpectedly dumped her two weeks before the wedding, leaving her dateless. Luckily, she has the perfect distraction. Her family has a tradition of playing the ultimate game of Assassin every summer, and this year it will take place during the week of wedding festivities.

But her target just happens to be a very cute groomsman. She’s determined to not let herself get distracted, not let herself be lost in another doomed relationship. But as the week progresses, she can’t help falling for him, which may cost her not only the game but also her heart.

Meredith’s family’s annual game of assassin at Martha’s Vineyard during a summer wedding is the perfect chance to honour her sister’s legacy, and finally join the world again. But when she forms an alliance with a cute groomsman, she’s at risk of losing both the game… and her heart.

Official Summary

12 October 2023

This book follows, Meredith as she and her parents go to Martha’s Vineyard for the summer for the first time since her sister, Clair has passed away. They are going for a cousin’s wedding. Meredith tries to cope with all the reminders of her sister in their favourite place and makes a connection with one of the groomsmen, Wit.

This book takes place during a game of assassins. This was super cool and added such a unique plot to the book. I loved how the game added a tiny bit of mystery to the book and had me just as invested in the game.

Meredith was such a good character because there were times when I loved her and times when I didn’t. However, I like how Meredith’s actions were mentioned as being bad at times and not just swept under the rug like most books do. Wit was an okay character, he is your typical golden retriever character.

I found it so funny, how although Claire was never even in this book, we as the reader knew exactly who she was. It was amazing how well-written that character was, as even I could feel the loss of Clair in the environment as Meredith and other people mentioned her so much.

I think my one and only complaint with this book was all the people. Holy smokes there are a lot of characters in this book. Normally I have no problem keeping up with the characters however in this one, I could barely keep track of everyone, and that was with me using the family tree you get in the front of the book to help me.

A solid four stars. Loved all the Taylor Swift references in this book. Which may or may not have been the reason I wanted to read this book in the first place. Anyway, would recommend it to anyone looking for a light and quick read.
