Official Summary
In the months following Earl’s mountain, Silver Melody and her friends are rebuilding their lives in a new community, using her father’s genetic expertise to grow crops. They have settled in and are slowly recovering from the terrifying events at Earl’s mountain.
Even as she lives her day to day, Silver is plagued by images of blackened crops and the looming shadow of a silhouette with yellow eyes, engulfing the entire community. I love Silver as a character although she suffers from serious anxiety, she is still as strong as ever and just as capable. At the beginning of the book, Silver goes through a lot of soul-searching which I like.
I also really enjoyed Eli’s character I liked how we were shown him feeling out of place and him trying his best to fit in with everyone else.
Matt was not my favourite character in this book, I found him to be a bit annoying. I didn’t like how he just wanted Silver to sweep all her trauma under a rug like it never happened.
This book is action-packed dystopian fiction. Which is normally my ideal genre. I was super sad once this book ended. I really enjoyed this three-part series. I am looking forward to seeing what else Marisa Noelle is going to do in the future.
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dystopian fiction.
Books in the series:
The Unadjusteds
GENETIC MODIFICATION HAS TAKEN OVER THE WORLD. A new class system now exists, dividing those who have enhancements and those who do not. Sixteen-year-old Silver Melody, a proud unadjusted, must navigate a world where 80% of the population has modified their DNA. Known as the altereds, those people possess enhancements like wings, tails, and increased strength or intelligence. Silver’s parents created the nanite pill used to deliver these genetic modifications for altruistic reasons but are now forced to make combinations of terrifying power. When the president declares all unadjusteds must take a nanite, Silver has no choice but to flee the city with her father and some friends to prevent the extinction of the unadjusteds. With Silver’s mother in prison for treason, Silver’s father is the unadjusteds’ only hope at finding a cure. But when Silver’s father is captured by the president’s almost immortal army, hope of a cure is lost. Vicious hellhounds are on Silver’s trail, and her only chance to recover her father involves teaming up with a new group of unlikely friends before all humanity is lost.
The Rise of The Altered
GENETIC MODIFICATION HAS BEEN OUTLAWED. THE REMAINING ALTEREDS WANT REVENGE. When Silver’s mother is abducted by a rogue scientist who releases a deadly new virus on the populace, she and her now unadjusted friends are faced with an impossible choice. They can hide from the virus for as long as possible, or they can regain their abilities and take the battle to the mountains. But Silver doesn’t count on a new, rogue power growing within her. She can’t control it and soon all her friends are in danger. And there is something evil hiding in the snowy Sierras. Can Silver learn to control her new, deadly power in time to rescue her mother as well as defeat the one who seeks to destroy them all?
The Reckoning
THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER. A NEW NEMESIS HAS AWOKEN. Sinister visions of an evil entity with looming yellow eyes haunt Silver’s dreams, threatening to destroy the new world she and her friends have created. The terrifying omens push Silver to experiment with her abilities but awaken a burgeoning thirst for more power. As Silver walks a fine line between good and evil, her friends become wary of her intimidating abilities. She finds understanding in a sympathetic newcomer, but their deepening friendship drives an even deeper wedge between Silver and her suspicious friends. Tragedy strikes during preparations for the final stand, bringing a terrible choice. Grief drives Silver toward reckless actions that may doom the final battle. Can she repair the relationships with her friends and control her powers before her vision becomes reality?
