Official Summary

While I am new to this author, I was very excited about participating in this tour. I was immediately intrigued when I read the blurb and could not wait to start this book. This was a book that read in one day – which if you know me, you will know is a huge achievement. But I could not put this book down.

The story is gripping and keeps you guessing as you turn the pages.

Heidi Perks manages to quickly draw you into the lives of her characters and keeps you hooked right to the end. I loved the scenery in this story and had no problem visualising the beautiful setting – even though I have never been to Greece. The best part about this story was the details around Laila’s desperate need for motherhood. You can feel this woman’s longing as you turn the pages.

Laila and her husband arrive in Greece for a weeklong holiday. A holiday for them to reconnect and relook their future. However, Laila finds herself spending a lot of time on her own and her love of people-watching quickly has her closing observing a mother with her teenage boys. Laila quietly observes their family interactions. When tragedy strikes, Laila is sure she knows what happened. She is keen to do the right thing and struggles with the decision to tell Em what she knows. But what if she is wrong? She could potentially make life very difficult for Em.

This book grabs hold of you and refuses to let you go until you reach the last page. I was drawn to Laila and her desire to be a mother. The author did a fantastic job sharing this woman’s emotions.

Laila was a fantastic creation. Her marriage is struggling and she is determined to make sacrifices if that’s what it takes to save the marriage. She loves her husband and does not want to lose him. Her ‘obsession’ with Em and her family is a distraction and a way to fill the time when she is alone. The way her husband treated her was heartbreaking, leaving me wanting to tell her she deserves better. However, love can be blind and in Laila’s case that was very true.

This book was a brilliantly entertaining read that left me oblivious to the world around me. I am not sure when last I spent an entire day reading, and this was the perfect book for just that. Needless to say, this title sailed onto my top ten favourite books for the year.

If you are looking for a book that will keep you intrigued and the author shares the character’s emotions, then you will not want to miss this one. The author leaves you with the question of how far you would be prepared to go to protect your children. This book is well worth adding to your TBR, but be ready to read late into the night, you will not want to put this one down.

NOW YOU SEE HER

She was your responsibility.
And now she’s missing.

Charlotte is looking after her best friend’s daughter the day she disappears. She thought the little girl was playing with her own children. She swears she only took her eyes off them for a second.
Now, Charlotte must do the unthinkable: tell her best friend Harriet that her only child is missing. The child she was meant to be watching.
Devastated, Harriet can no longer bear to see Charlotte. No one could expect her to trust her friend again.
Only now she needs to. Because two weeks later Harriet and Charlotte are both being questioned separately by the police. And secrets are about to surface.
Someone is hiding the truth about what really happened to Alice.

About The Author

Author bio from the author’s site

I’ve always loved reading and writing and for as long as I can remember I’ve been making up stories, poems and even magazines that I’d sell to unsuspecting family members for 20p. I fell in love with Enid Blyton and books like The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles, and somehow managed to get through GCSE’s and A-levels while spending most of the lessons staring out of the window and creating other worlds in my head.

In 1997 I graduated from university and moved up to London to begin a career in marketing. But after three years I moved back down to the south coast and, drawn back to the sea, eventually to my home town of Bournemouth where I still now live with my husband and two children.

After fifteen years of marketing and thrown into the new world of motherhood I decided to make some changes to my life. I left my job in 2012 to look after my family and finally took pen to paper to start writing a novel I’d been thinking about since a holiday six months earlier.

The following year I was accepted onto the inaugural Curtis Brown Creative online Novel Writing Course, which fuelled my desire to become an author even more, and I began writing Beneath The Surface. This was published by Red Door in March 2016.

By then I was already deep in the throes of Now You See Her. I met the amazing Nelle Andrew from PFD who offered me representation and after a year we had two incredible pre-empts for the book from Emily Griffin at Century and Marla Daniels at Simon and Schuster in the US.

Thank you to Anne Cater from Random Things Tours for including me on this blog tour. This was another new to me author whom I cannot wait to spend more time with. There goes my TBR because after reading The Other Guest I simply must add more of Heidi Perks’s books to my pile. Are you a fan? Which is your favourite book? Leave a comment below and I will try to get myself a copy.

A big thank you to you for visiting the blog and reading my review, your continued support has been amazing. It is almost three years and seeing readers returning to the blog has been extremely rewarding.

Feel free to share! Sharing is Caring!
