The Maze Runner Book Review

If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human.

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.

Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the Glade.

Outside the towering stone walls that surround the Glade is a limitless, ever-changing maze. It’s the only way out—and no one’s ever made it through alive.

Everything is going to change.

Then a girl arrives. The first girl ever. And the message she delivers is terrifying.

Remember. Survive. Run.

Official Summary

SPOILER ALERT!

Just a warning this review will have spoilers in it.

I only read this book for my English class for school. Overall, I was very disappointed. I remember watching the movies when they first came out and although I wasn’t all that impressed with the movies the books seemed to be worst somehow. This was very shocking for me as I always think the book is better.

The book was painfully slow especially at the beginning of the book. Not to mention the terrible dialogue. I don’t like how almost every second word was some made-up word for example Shuk, Klunk and Shank. This made the dialogue very unbearable to read.

Another one of my problems with the book was the terribly written characters. I had no emotional attachment to any of the characters which made me not want to read the next book as I don’t care what happened to them. For example, when Chuck dies, I feel a little bad but I found myself not caring. Overall, the characters were dull which is sad as they all had so much potential.

There were also so many things written that were unnecessary in this book. For example, Alby’s death, it is said that Alby sacrifices himself to save the other boys. However, this sacrifice does nothing to save the boys. The grievers still attack them, they don’t stop after Alby dies. It made me feel the writer just wanted to kill Alby just for the sake of killing someone.

Another thing that doesn’t make sense is Thomas and Teresa’s telepathy. The fact that they can do this never plays any sort of role in the plot of the story. It sort of just seems like it is a filler to make the book longer.

Overall, despite my criticism, the book is unique and not something I have read before. Although this isn’t something I would write home about.
