This is a book that will have you sitting up straight and paying attention. I completely lost myself in this brilliant thriller. It is a sharp, creative story filled with detail and a wonderful twist at the end. The legal angle you are drawn into as you lose yourself in Ingrid’s world is fantastic.
This is my first taste of Jane Casey’s writing and I simply loved the detail she adds to her story. I was completely engrossed while reading this and would not hesitate to reach for one of her books again. While there is a lot of detail you are not left feeling overwhelmed, every little fact the author included is relevant and adds to understanding the story. This book is one I really struggled to drag myself away from, if I could, I would have read this in one sitting…, How I miss endless days with nothing to drag me away from my book.
After defending John on a charge of stalking, Ingrid finds herself the subject of his new obsession. Her only escape was when he was sent to prison. But now he is back and her world is suddenly filled with unexplained events. John claims innocence and promises he can protect and save her. Can she trust him? Should she trust a man who she knows lies easily and has no emotion at all?
I really enjoyed this intense read. The author managed to include a lot of detail and a lot of characters while keeping me gripped from start to finish. This is a wonderfully intriguing story. I hated having to put this book down,
Ingrid was a realistic character and I loved the way the author showed her fear and insecurities. By nature this is a strong woman, however, after everything John put her through she finds herself living in constant fear. She won’t allow herself to become a weak, insecure woman and this drives her to continue living her life even while she is struggling with her fears. I loved how she maintained a sense of strength and independence even when she felt as if her world was falling apart.
As for John – well this is a man I would hate to cross paths with. He’s obsessed with Ingrid was bone-chilling and his access to information left me wondering what the internet can tell people about me. The author created this man with the idea to leave the hair on the back of your neck standing on edge and she succeeded!
This is a book I am happy to add to my loved list for 2022 and I look forward to the opportunity of reading more of this author’s work.
If you enjoy a crime thriller with a legal angle, then this is without a doubt the book for you. I highly recommend that you add this title to your TBR – but be warned, this is a book you are not going to want to put down once you open it.
Remember to visit the other Tour Stops:
Jane Casey is no stranger to the crime world. Married to a criminal barrister, she’s got the inside track on some of the country’s most dangerous offenders, giving her writing an unsettlingly realistic feel.
This authenticity has made her novels international bestsellers and critical successes. They have been nominated for several awards and in 2015 Jane won both the Mary Higgins Clark Award and Irish Crime Novel of the Year for The Stranger You Know and After the Fire, respectively. In 2019, Cruel Acts was chosen as Irish Crime Novel of the Year at the Irish Book Awards. It was a Sunday Times bestseller. Born in Dublin, Jane now lives in southwest London with her family.
