It raises the stakes and makes you invested in how far she will go to see justice done. If you didn’t fall in love with Millie in the first book, you are guaranteed to do so when reading this one.

The pacing is perfect—fast enough to maintain suspense, but with enough slow, chilling moments to let the tension build. McFadden’s writing is sharp, with twists that feel organic rather than forced, and the final reveal is both satisfying and shocking.
