Official Summary
March 1997. A woman has her throat cut behind a bar in Carter Crossing, Mississippi. Just down the road is a big army base. Is the murderer a local guy – or is he a soldier?
Jack Reacher, still a major in the military police, is sent in undercover. The county sheriff is a former US Marine – and a stunningly beautiful woman. Her investigation is going nowhere. Is the Pentagon stonewalling her? Or doesn’t she really want to find the killer?
My thoughts:
This was my introduction to Lee Child and Jack Reacher. Someone recommend this to me, saying if I enjoy Jonathan Kellerman, I will like Lee Child as it is similar. I do not agree. Initially, I battled with the military background, making it a little difficult to read. Jack Reacher is quite a hero though. Like most reader, I am sure, I fell in love with Jack and will most likely read more of these books just because of the character. This story kept me guessing right to the end, despite battling to get into it – I have to say I loved it and I look forward to reading more Jack Reacher story.
In 2021 I can say of course I read more of these – the Reacher series now takes up a large chunk of my bookshelf.
