THE MOST HATED WOMAN IN AMERICA
The Sandman killings have been solved. Daniel Miller murdered fourteen people before he vanished. His wife, Carrie, now faces trial as his accomplice. The FBI, the District Attorney, the media and everyone in America believe she knew and helped cover up her husband’s crimes.
THE LAWYER
Eddie Flynn won’t take a case unless his client is innocent. Now, he has to prove to a jury, and the entire world, that Carrie Miller was just another victim of the Sandman. She didn’t know her husband’s dark side, and she had no part in the murders. But so far, Eddie and his team are the only ones who believe her.
THE FORMER FBI AGENT
Gabriel Lake used to be a federal agent before someone tried to kill him. Now, he’s an investigator with a vendetta against the Sandman. He’s the only one who can catch him, because he believes that everything the FBI knows about serial killers is wrong.
THE KILLER
With his wife on trial, the Sandman is forced to come out of hiding to save her from a life sentence. He will kill to protect her, and everyone involved in the case is a target.

I have had so much fun reading the Eddie Flynn Series. Cavanagh delivers another high-octane legal thriller with The Accomplice, and once again, Eddie Flynn proves why he’s one of my favourite courtroom protagonists. From the opening pages, this book grabs hold and refuses to let go, blending a tense murder trial with the chilling presence of a serial killer who is very much still at large.
The premise is instantly compelling: Carrie Miller is already convicted in the court of public opinion, branded the most hated woman in America for allegedly helping her husband, the Sandman, carry out his horrific crimes. Eddie Flynn’s refusal to defend anyone he believes is guilty makes this case especially intriguing, and I loved watching him go up against not just the prosecution, but the media, the FBI and a nation screaming for blood.
What really stood out for me was the shifting perspectives. The inclusion of former FBI agent Gabriel Lake adds an extra layer of tension and obsession, and the chapters involving the Sandman himself are deeply unsettling. Knowing he’s watching from the shadows, ready to kill again, creates a constant sense of danger that extends far beyond the courtroom.
The pacing is classic Cavanagh—short chapters, sharp dialogue and relentless twists. While a few developments felt a touch over-the-top, the sheer momentum of the story more than makes up for it. The courtroom scenes are especially strong, packed with clever manoeuvring and satisfying mic-drop moments.
The Accomplice is a gripping, twisty thriller that kept me hooked right to the end. It’s not my absolute favourite in the Eddie Flynn series, but it’s still an addictive, pulse-pounding read that legal thriller fans will devour. If you enjoy fast-paced plots, morally complex cases and a hero who never backs down, this one is well worth picking up.
