Official Summary
Here is something different. I was approached by the author to read this title and while I am usually very selective of the supernatural titles I add to my TBR, this proved to be a refreshing read.
This is a short story, easy to read in one sitting – I climbed into bed with this one on Saturday night and managed to finish it way before my usual bedtime. Salt Heart is a light read with some religious undertones. But don’t allow that to discourage you from reading it if that is not your cuppa tea.
This is a fresh, well-written story guaranteed to entertain. I enjoyed the author’s description of the humanoids – these merpeople are a far cry from the Disney character’s I have been exposed to. The story was captivating and left me wanting more.
The only problem with this story is that it was too short. I would have gladly spent a lot more time with these characters and would have enjoyed immersing myself in this fantasy world a bit more. The author did a wonderful job drawing me in and it would be very welcoming to learn more about this world and the characters within it.
Selecting a favourite character is easy – I just loved Ryan Setter. The author managed to create a realistic father-daughter relationship despite the supernatural element to the story. Again, it would be great if the author gave us more detail on the back story – allow us to get to know these characters a little more intimately.
Yes, I enjoyed this book, I would recommend this to a young adult audience who is looking for a fast read while allowing them the escape of a supernatural world.
If you are looking for a quick, short escape into a fantasy world filled with mermaids, then this is the book for you – go ahead, get yourself a copy.
