Restore Me – YA Book Review

By Tahereh Mafi

The girl with the power to kill with a single touch now has the world in the palm of her hand…

It’s been sixteen days since Juliette Ferrars killed the supreme commander of North America and took over as the ruler of The Reestablishment. Sixteen days since she assassinated Warner’s father. She thought she’d won. She took over Sector 45 and now has Warner by her side.

When tragedy strikes, Juliette must confront the darkness that consumes her world – and those she loves. Can she control the power she wields, or will it control her?

Official Summary

The story follows Juliette, Warner, Kenji and the rest of the survivors of omega point after they have killed Anderson and Juliette has become the new supreme commander. Restore Me shows how Juliette tries hers best to stay in power.

I think that making Juliette the supreme commander was a mistake, at least in the beginning; I would have let Warner be the supreme commander first, as he knows how things works and he is a good leader. I found it a little annoying every time Juliette got angry with Warner when he was giving her advice, as he was just trying to help her and she somehow took it the wrong way each time.

I did however love the new relationships and friendships that were formed in this book.

Warner and Kenji:

I loved their witty banter and how they were always getting angry and teasing one another. I loved how they both made an effort to get along for Juliette. It showed how much they both cared for her. I also loved how well they worked together. Especially when Juliette got drunk and they came together and put aside their problems to help her.

Kenji and Nazeera:

I loved Nazeera as a character: I loved how she didn’t take anything from anyone and how she put Kenji in his place when he was acting up. I think Nazeera will bring Juliette some much needed female friendship.

I liked the book even though there was quite a lot of backpedalling with Juliette’s character. In Ignite Me she was this strong independent woman but at the beginning of Restore Me, she went back to being a scared little girl again. Although, throughout the book Juliette gained her confidence again.

My favourite character in this book had to be Warner, I liked that we got to read from his point of view. Even though being inside Warner’s mind, Restore Me was a little sad, it was still very much enjoyable and a lot better than being inside Juliette’s mind.

I would defiantly recommend Restore me.
