That's a Wrap!
November has reached its end, my house is packed and I am ready for the removal van to arrive tomorrow morning. Needless to say, the month of November was no more than a blur. The days disappeared way too quickly and I have no idea how I managed to get everything done.
My books were one of the first things I packed and spending the month looking at an empty bookshelf left me sad and desperate to fill it again. I cannot wait to unpack and restock the shelves.
With Christmas just around the corner, I am sure some of the books we reviewed this month will make wonderful gifts. If you missed out, here is a summary of what we covered during November.
02 November – The Quiet People by Paul Cleave
This was the first time I have read anything by Paul Cleave, and what a brilliant read. This story had me reading till the early hours as I could not drag myself away. I loved this book. The author made such a great impression on me that I add another four of his books to my TBR – sadly not hard copies, I had to settle for eBooks. My husband would not have been impressed if I added four more books to be packed.
03 November – The Couple On Maple Drive by Sam Carrington
This review copy from NetGalley was close to expiring when I finally got around to reading it. If you are a fan of True Crime podcasts, then this book will certainly appeal to you. This crime story is told with chapters included told from a true-crime podcast perspective. It is a gripping, twisty tale full of surprises. A great read that will not leave you disappointed.
04 November – Every Little Lie by Lesley Sanderson
The author explores those little lies we tell, the things from our past we do not wish to share with the people in our lives. However, she takes it a little further – what if what we are keeping to ourselves are not just little lies – but serious things that can affect the people we love. Every Little Lie is a creative tale that will keep you glued to the pages.
MY BOOK OF THE MONTH
11 November – Lies in Bone by Natalie Symons
I was approached by the author’s publicist to review this book. This book blew me away. I loved every second and I could not flick through the pages fast enough. This coming-of-age mystery has a young character that faces one disaster after the other. With every new twist, your heart will break. This is an emotional read that will leave you forgetting that you are reading a work of fiction. If you only add one book to your TBR then I highly recommend that it be this one.
12 November – The Family Man by Anna Willett
Yet another new-to-me author. Anna Willett dives straight into the story with this book, hooking the reader with the very first line. I loved this book. A police procedural that is fast-paced and oozing with spin shilling facts about the hunt for a serial killer. What I loved most about this book is that while it is a tale filled with brutality, the author managed to not gross you out with too much gory detail. A marvellous read that you will race through.
17 November – The Godmothers by Monica McInerney
I received a review copy of this book from Jonathan Ball Publishers. What a beautifully refreshing read. I fell in love with the quirky characters and enjoyed the author’s movement between Australia, Scotland and Ireland. This is the perfect book for an escape. A five-star read you want to add to your TBR. I loved this one.
23 November – Psychopaths Anonymous by Will Carver
This brave work of fiction does not hold back any punches. Psychopaths Anonymous challenges everything about the world as we know it. This book is not suitable for sensitive readers and religious beliefs are challenged in this one as well. However, if you are open-minded, you will find this to be a gripping read that will keep you entertained from start to finish.
24 November – The Warden by Jon Richter
This book is simply frightening! COVID has rocked our world and changed the way we live our lives. The Warden explores the effects of lockdown, how it has changed us and then takes it one step further. This book will keep you reading way into the night as the author tells a story where lockdown is still with us in the year 2024.
25 November – Bloodstone: The Curse of Time by M.J. Mallon
Alicia was wrapped up with her yearend exams as well as packing this month, but she managed to find time to share her thoughts about this entertaining book. She says: “I loved how unique this story is. Like the idea of paint set talking and the crystal wizard stones was just hilarious to me. It made the book so strange and fun to read.”
That’s it from me. My time over the next few days will be taken up with unpacking and turning the new house into something that resembles a home in time for Christmas. I have no blog tours scheduled for December, but I am sure once the Wi-Fi is up and running I will find some time to share a review or two.
As always thank you for your support! Until next time… (not sure when that will be) Happy Reading!
Look like you read a lot of good thrillers in November.
It was a great reading month
