January in a Nutshell

That's a Wrap!

It is hard to believe that the first month of the year is done and dusted. It seems like I am still trying to find my feet. Our local weather has been simply horrible. Usually, our summer months are filled with gloriously hot days spent under incredible blue skies. So far it seems blue skies have been a rare occurrence, the days have instead been dominated by rain and a blanket of grey clouds has been hanging around all the time. This is not happy weather, but it has encouraged a lot more reading. That is always a good thing.

You are not here to listen to me complaining about the weather, so let’s have a look at what Alicia and I have reviewed this month. Alicia has made a wonderful contribution this month and she has found some books she has really been enjoying. If you missed out, here is a wrap up of the January reviews:

04 January – Kill Me Goodbye by A.K. Reynolds

4/5

My first blog tour stop of the year was for this crime thriller which sure packed a punch. This book is filled with scary characters guaranteed to leave hairs on your neck standing on ends.

05 January – Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

5/5

Alicia loved this book and found herself saying WOW, she has added the rest of this series to her TBR for this year.

06 January – The Undiscovered Deaths of Grace McGill by C.S. Robertson

5/5

This book was suggested to me by the publisher, and I was not sure what to expect. I have not read anything by C.S. Robertson before and this book turned me into an instant fan. I loved this book, and it deserved a five-star rating. I cannot wait to spend more time reading this author’s work.

I have added Random by CS Robertson to my TBR for February.

07 January – Unfaithful by J.L. Butler

4/5

This was yet another new to me author and I enjoyed this book so much I have already managed to get my hands on a copy of her book ‘Mine’ which I cannot wait to read. I have added Mine by J.L. Butler to my TBR for February.

10 January – Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard

3/5

These two short stories left Alicia with mixed feelings, she loved one and found the other one simply okay. I hope this has not spoilt the series for her

11 January – One of Us is Lying by Karen M McManus

5/5

Trying a different genre turned out to be a rewarding read for Alicia, this book kept her on the edge of her seat and reading late into the night.

13 January – Remember My Name by Sam Blake

4/5

This was my third blog tour post for the year and this title has everything needed to keep thriller fans flipping pages. It is a gripping read, and well worth checking out.

17 January – One of Us is Next by Karen M McManus

4/5

Alicia says that once she got into this book it was amazing, so the slow start is worth it.

18 January – The Maid by Nita Prose

5/5

I received this review copy from Jonathan Ball Publishers and what a brilliant read. This debut novel was a fantastic read. A story about self-discovery that features an unusual character that will crawl into your heart.

19 January – Fairest Creatures by Karen Taylor

4/5

This blog tour post was yet another new to me author. This book is deliciously creepy and the author demonstrates an amazing imagination with this one.

20 January – The Couple at the Table by Sophie Hannah

5/5

Another review copy I received from Jonathan Ball Publishers which was simply an amazing read. This is a whodunnit with the perfect impossible murder. If you are keen on a mystery that will keep you guessing then this is the book for you.

21 January – The Comfort of Monsters by Willa C Richards

4/5

When I received the blog tour invite for this book I could not wait to get stuck into this title. This is an intense read. The author crafts a tale that joins fact and fiction which produced a gripping page-turner.

24 January – Righteous assassin by Kevin Chapman

4/5

This book is a gripping, edge of your seat police procedural. The author drops you straight into the hunt for a serial killer and leaves you sharing all the ups and downs of the hunt.

25 January – Boy Fallen by Chris Gill

4/5

The publisher reached out and suggested this book for review. This is not something I would have picked out on my own. What a nail-biting whodunnit it turned out to be. If you missed my review, please go have a look.

26 January – The Last House on the Street by Diane Chamberlain

5/5

This book was part of my Book Mail from Jonathan Ball Publishers this month. I am new to Diane Chamberlain’s work and this was a remarkably powerful book. The author based the story around true events from the 1960s and created a gripping page-turner that is sure to stay with you.

27 January – Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard

4/5

This was Alicia’s fifth review for the month, I know I  am gonna miss her hard work now that she is back at school. Perhaps she will manage to find a balance between school and her reading this year. Keep an eye out, she is busy reading A Good Girls Guide to Murder now.

28 January – The Invite by Sheryl Browne

4/5

Bookouture tweeted about this book and I could not resist. Naturally, I rushed over to NetGalley to request an ARC. What a brilliant read it turned out to be. I am really glad I didn’t miss out on this one. You will want to add this to your TBR if a twisty psychological thriller is appealing to you.

BOOK OF THE MONTH

2022 has kicked off with some incredible books and picking a favourite was no easy feat. After a lot of consideration, I picked a book that stood out, that was a gripping read but was also a little different. Yep, you guessed, my book of the month is The Undiscovered Deaths of Grace McGill by C.S. Robertson– I could not read this book fast enough. It is a brilliant book that deserves to be on your TBR – if it is not there already.

YOUNG ADULT BOOK OF THE MONTH

With Alicia’s busy month, she decided to pick a book of the month as well this month, so the Young Adult book of the month is: One of Us is Lying by Karen M McManus.

A huge thank you to everyone who has visited the blog this month. Your comments, emails and support have been overwhelming. So thank you, we really do appreciate having you stop by. Until next time, keep visiting and …. Happy Reading!
