Erin Sloane was sixteen when high school senior Andre Villiers was murdered by his friends. They were her friends, too, led by the intense, charismatic Ricky Hell. Five people went into West Cypress Woods the night Andre was murdered. Only three came out.

Ativan, alcohol and distance had dimmed Erin’s memories of that time. But nearly twenty years later, an ageing father will bring her home. Now a journalist, she is asked to write a story about the Southport Three and the thrill-kill murder that electrified the country. Erin’s investigation propels her closer and closer to a terrifying truth. And closer and closer to danger.

Official Summary

What an intense read. I Shot The Devil will keep you on the edge of your seat as the author unravels a complex tale about murder, childhood loss and the search for the truth. I found myself flying through this book eager to discover the truth about that one terrible night.

The author keeps you in the dark while you turn the pages discovering various theories about that one terrible night when two young men never returned from the woods. Everyone tells a different story, and you are drawn into the story as you try to understand what the truth is. This is a dark, thrilling tale full of action from start to finish.

Sixteen years ago, Erin lost the love of her life. Ricky Hell went into the woods with four others and never returned. The death of Andre was pinned on Ricky, and the press went to town calling him a Satanist. The three survivors told stories of drug-induced hallucinations which no one could unravel. No Erin Sloane needs to reconnect with her past to uncover the truth. Is she strong enough to face the demons she has worked so hard to bury? The more she digs to find the truth, the closer she gets to her own family and the threats to her life become ever increasing. Can Erin prove that Ricky Hell was not a satanic leader and clear his name before she loses her life?

This book was a busy read. There is not a dull moment. There is a crime in here for everyone. I did not want to put this book down afraid I would miss something if I did. It is a fast-paced read that is packed with action. I felt if I blinked, I would miss something. This intense story leaves you feeling out of breath as you reach the last page.

Erin Sloane is an intense character; she leaves you amazed at all she has experienced and surprised that she is still standing. As she reaches for a bottle to dull her pain you are left amazed by her ability to keep going. This is a remarkably strong young woman, whose drive for the truth leaves you in awe.

I Shot The Devil was a weekend read that saw my family neglected and meals skipped. I could not drag myself away from this book. It’s an intense thrilling read that left me reeling with information as the various characters shared their opinions. Only when you reach the end of this book do you understand what happened. There are so many sad moments in this book I was left drained.

This book will have crime and thriller fans on the edge of their seats. This debut novel is going to have people talking about it for quite some time. It’s a dark, intense read that will keep you glued to the pages. If you haven’t yet, add this one to your TBR.
