This book follows Mallory, a girl who killed her boyfriend, Brian a few months ago. It was decided that it was a case of self-defence. However, Mallory cannot remember anything that had happened that night or why she killed him. Her parents decide she should be sent to a private school out of town as everyone in town hates her. However, not long after a body turns up at the school, and Mallory cannot remember anything for that night either. She is quickly blamed and must figure out what happened.

You sort of watch Mallory go through three different relationships within six months, through the present time and flashbacks. Overall I loved the growth we saw Mallory have with those three relationships. You watch her growth and cope with the trauma of what she did, and why she did it.

The book had me hooked, I was flying through it as I constantly wanted to know what happened the night she killed Brian and honestly it was such a fun read and had me on the edge of my seat.

I will say, Mallory did a lot of running in this book. Every time she had a problem, she would just run, literally, she would just take off in the opposite direction. She was such a strange and interesting character, and honestly, I wanted more of her after the book ended. Reid was also a great character, I liked how caring he was. Colleen was my favourite character, she was happy and vibrant and I loved the friendship between her and Mallory.

The mystery was really good and had me hooked. If I wasn’t so busy at the moment, I would have easily finished it in one sitting. I could not recommend it more.

The Girl From Widow Hills

Everyone knows the story of “The Girl from Widow Hills.”

Arden Maynor was just a child when she was swept away while sleepwalking during a terrifying rainstorm and went missing for days. Strangers, friends, neighbours and rescue workers, set up search parties and held vigils, praying for her safe return. Against all odds, she was found, alive, clinging to a storm drain. The girl from Widow Hills was a living miracle. Arden’s mother wrote a book. Fame followed. Fans and fan letters, creeps, and stalkers. And every year, the anniversary. It all became too much. As soon as she was old enough, Arden changed her name and disappeared from the public eye.

Now a young woman living hundreds of miles away, Arden goes by Olivia. She’s managed to stay off the radar for the last few years. But with the twentieth anniversary of her rescue approaching, the media will inevitably renew its interest in Arden. Where is she now? Soon Olivia feels like she’s being watched and begins sleepwalking again, like she did long ago, even waking outside her home. Until late one night, she jolts awake in her yard. At her feet is the corpse of a man she knows—from her previous life, as Arden Maynor.

And now, the girl from Widow Hills is about to become the centre of the story, once again, in this propulsive page-turner from suspense master Megan Miranda.
