BOUND BY BLOOD.

TEMPTED BY DESIRE.

UNLEASHED BY DESTINY.

Bryce Quinlan loves her life. Every night is a party, and Bryce is going to savour all the pleasures Lunathion – also known as Crescent City – has to offer. But when a brutal murder shakes the very foundations of the city, Bryce’s world comes crashing down.

Two years later, Bryce still haunts the city’s most notorious nightclubs – but seeking only oblivion now. Then the murderer attacks again. And when an infamous Fallen angel, Hunt Athalar, is assigned to watch her every footstep, Bryce knows she can’t forget any longer.

As Bryce and Hunt fight to unravel the mystery and their own dark pasts, the threads they tug ripple through the underbelly of the city, across warring continents and down to the deepest levels of Hel, where things that have been sleeping for millennia are beginning to stir.

Perfect for fans of Jessica Jones and True Blood, this is a blockbuster modern fantasy set in a divided world where one woman must uncover the truth to seek her revenge.

With unforgettable characters and page-turning suspense, this richly inventive new fantasy series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas delves into the heartache of loss, the price of freedom – and the power of love.

Official Summary

This book is told from multiple points of view. It follows the story of Bryce and Hunt. They are both trying to solve a murder from two years ago. Bryce’s motives are revenge and Hunt’s is based on his own personal freedom. In a fictional world where there are Fae, werewolves, sorcerers and many more, they reluctantly work together to try to uncover the truth.

Like all of Sarah J Maas’s books, the beginning of this first book is long and very confusing. The first is a slow start, but then the story and plot just get better and better.

The beginning of this book was slow, very slow. This world-building was intense. I also couldn’t stand that there was more than one name for things and or people. I really didn’t like how confused I was trying to keep up with all the names. It also didn’t help that at times people referred to someone by their name and then a paragraph later referred to them by their last name. Bryce and Hunt did this so many times with each other and in the beginning reading the parts where they were together made my head sore, trying to keep up.

However, once I got past the first half of the book I honestly couldn’t put it down. I loved the hint of mystery within this fantasy. I also loved how many twists and turns there were in this book. The characters were all pretty decent. I definitely like these characters more than I like the ACOTAR characters.

I liked Bryce’s character the most. I liked how she would just let people think what they want. I also liked how kind she was to everyone around her. Hunt, was okay I guess, he was your typical brooding dark-haired angel. I think I would have liked his character a whole lot more if he wasn’t so judgmental of Bryce at the beginning of the book. It really annoyed me when he would just make assumptions about who she was when he didn’t even know her. So yeah, let’s hope he redeems himself throughout the series.

I already have the next book in the series on my shelf and I am already itching to pick it up to see how the story continues. So you can expect to see that review soon.

Overall I enjoyed the book and I am very much looking forward to the rest of this series.
