If there are two sides to every story, someone is always lying…
Jack: Three words to describe my wife: Beautiful. Ambitious. Unforgiving.
Anna: I only need one word to describe my husband: Liar.

When a woman is murdered in Blackdown village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Anna’s ex-husband, DCI Jack Harper, is suspicious of her involvement until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation.
Someone is lying, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.

Official Summary

This is my third Alice Feeney book and without a doubt my favourite so far. This book has a bit of everything and will keep you on the edge of your seat while you have no idea who to believe. On the cover, Christina Dalcher says: “Gives Gone Girl a run for its money” and I fully agree with that statement. This is a fantastic read and if you have not read this one yet – what are you waiting for?

Alice Feeney managed to add various angles to this book, integrating ageism, addiction, anxiety, loss and the way people remember events differently. This book is full of twists and you are never sure who you should believe. Telling the story from His and Her perspectives allows the reader to see the differences between the character’s memories as well as how they see each other and think the other one sees them. This book is a fantastic work of fiction that you do not want to miss. There is no doubt, I cannot wait to read more of this author’s books.

After unexpectedly losing her job, Ann finds herself back in her hometown. Blackdown does not hold good memories for Anna, and returning is bring the past back to her. When her old friends are dying, Anna finds herself caught between the past and the present. Desperate to leave the past behind her, this is also a way for her to regain her rightful place at work. However, a killer is closing in and Anna needs to keep her ex-husband in the dark, no matter what.

I raced through this book, but I had no idea what to believe. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, the author delivered yet another surprise which left me clueless yet again. I loved the uncertainty while reading this book. I read this book during a particularly hectic week in my life and this book was the perfect escape during this time for me.

It is very difficult to pick a favourite character in this book. Every time I started liking someone, they ended up doing the unthinkable. The author created a brilliant cast and while these people are all full of surprises, I managed to both like and dislike something about everyone.

This book keeps you on your toes from start to end. Everyone has something to hide and by the time you reach the end of this book, you will find yourself still doubting some of the things you think were the truth. I loved every minute I spent reading this book and cannot recommend this one highly enough. I have only read three of Alice Feeney’s books, but I am determined to add more of her books to my TBR after reading this one.

If you enjoyed Gone Girl, then you are in for a treat when reaching for this book. This is a fantastic read, if you haven’t yet, please add this one to your TBR – you will not be disappointed.
