The key to her missing memories could bring relief—or unlock her worst nightmares.
On a cold, rainy morning, finance journalist Ally Linden arrives early to work in her Manhattan office, only to find that she’s forgotten her keycard and needs to have a colleague she’s never met let her in. When her boss finally arrives, he seems surprised to see her—because she hasn’t worked there in five years.
Ally knows her name, but little else, and it’s only after several hours in an emergency room and multiple interviews with the hospital psychiatrist that she begins to piece together important facts: she lives on the Upper West Side; she’s now a freelance personal finance journalist; she’s married to a lovely man named Hugh. But she still can’t recall what happened to her during the previous two days. When she learns that she’s experienced a dissociative fugue state, Ally tries to think of triggers and remembers that she’d been seeing a therapist about a traumatic event from her childhood, in which she came across evidence for a murder that was never solved.
Desperate to unearth answers, Ally focuses on figuring out where she spent the missing forty-eight hours. As ominous details of the two days pile up, so does the terrifying pressure: she must recover the time she lost before the time she has left runs out.
Featuring Kate White’s signature twists and turns, Have You Seen Me? is a harrowing read that will keep readers guessing until its shocking ending.

Official Summary

12 January 2023

A little while ago I saw a tweet by Lisa Gardner, raving about Kate White’s writing. I have not heard about this author and decided to give it a try. Sadly, I discovered that Kate White’s books are extremely expensive locally (they retail for double the price of other author’s books) However, I kept an eye on the prices and the minute I found a special I jumped at the chance.

After reading this book I am hooked. I love this author’s work – how am I going to afford more of her books?  If any local retailer sees this post – please see if you can do something about the local pricing – please!

When you reach for this book are can expect a gripping read that will keep you glued to your seat. This psychological thriller will keep you captivated from the very first page.

The author quickly draws you into her story and manages to keep you guessing right to the end. Her writing is descriptive and contains a lot of knowledge – her detailed research shows on every page. I love her characters. I found myself completely captivated while reading this book, escaping the world around me completely. You can pick up this book in a crowded room and completely forget where you are.

Ally Linden arrives at work only to discover that she has not worked there for five years. The shock causes her to faint and she is rushed to the hospital. With no physical reason for her memory loss, she is admitted to the psychiatric ward which adds more stress to her situation. When her husband finally arrives to take her home, she finds there are pieces of her life coming back. However, once at home, she finds out that she has been missing for two days – two days she has no memory of.

Determined to discover the truth she hires a private investigator, but the more she remembers the more confused she is. Are these missing memories going to make her feel better, or will they reveal her worst nightmare?

I was captivated by this story. The idea of losing your memory and not knowing where you have been or what you have done is simply horrific. I shared Ally’s fears and confusion. I found myself completely lost in this story and could not read fast enough, only to be disappointed when the book finally finished – I loved this so much that I did not want the book to end.

Ally is a strong woman who knows exactly who she is and where she is going. She has a successful career and a wonderful husband. Life is exactly what she wants. Watching this woman fall apart was heartbreaking. You share her emotions as they ooze off the pages and find yourself eager for her to solve the mystery of the missing days – but you never suspect where this story is going to end.

I am an instant fan after reading this book. Yes, this one has been added to my loved list and I cannot wait to read more of Kate White’s books. I do not doubt that Kate White is going to become one of my favourite authors this year.

If you enjoy a gripping, twisty read that will keep you guessing while you fall in love with the characters then this is the book for you. I cannot recommend this one highly enough.

  2. I too have become a BIG Kate White fan. Since May of this year I have read 9 of her books, HAVE YOU SEEN ME will be the 10th. I was always an avid reader but over the years my reading of “novels” seems to have all but disappeared and my binging of suspense thrillers via streaming platforms had taken over my late night hours.

While watching the limited series THE LAST THING HE TOLD ME, streaming on APPLE TV, I found myself with unanswered questions regarding the character’s and plot points… I saw that it was based on the book by Laura Dave, so I Googled the book and coincidently saw that it was available via eBook at my library, no need to buy. So I read the book and then finished watching the series. AND that was the last streaming/binging I’ve done.

Luckily on my library’s website Kate White’s name popped up as a suggestion for a suspense/thriller novel, and I’m now happily hooked on reading as my end of day entertainment once again!!!

I am extremely grateful to my public library for providing me with these books!!! I look forward to finding more authors that give me that “Kate White ” feeling, as I will be finished with her 16 novels in a few months. Thank you Kate for the WONDERFUL experience!
