Official Summary

Family of Liars is the prequel to We Were Liars. You follow the story of the Sinclair Family’s previous generation. You see as Candace Johnny and the other cousins’ mothers. You see the family grieve after losing a daughter and a sister. As well as how the family came to be the mess it was in We Were Liars.

We Were Liars was one of my top reads for last year, so I eagerly waited for the right time to read this. I will say I did not expect this book to be as big as it was considering how small the first book was.

Carrie was such an interesting character as she was the main lead as you follow her throughout the book. I could never tell if I liked her all that much, a part of me loved her and a part of me couldn’t stand her. It was weird.

I love this type of writing. I think Lockhart is the only author who can somehow make waffling a gripping read. Because that is all this book is and honestly I loved it.

I would recommend that although this is the prequel for We Were Liars, I would recommend that you should read We Were Liars first. At times there are spoilers throughout the book.

Honestly purely just because this book so different and was a quick read which was what I needed at the time as the Goodreads goal was creeping closer, this book is an easy Five Star Read. I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone.

We Were Liars

A beautiful and distinguished family.

A private island.

A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.

A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.

A revolution. An accident. A secret.

Lies upon lies.

True love.

The truth.
