The third book in the DS Nathan Cody series and I was eager to find out more about Waldo – but Waldo did not show himself. While that was a small disappointment, this book left me heartbroken. This story features missing children and is an extremely emotional read. David Jackson delivers the gory details and keeps you glued to the pages, leaving you breathless as you race to the end.

I find myself completely engrossed in this series. David Jackson has me completely hooked. While he does not spare the gory details of the crimes and draws vivid images of the crime scenes, he includes characters that steal your heart, creating a balance between good and evil that allows you to walk away from the book feeling justice has been served. I have one more book in this series and I cannot wait to get started on it.

When a three your old is reported missing, the police know they must take a good look at the parents. While digging into the family history, a second child is snatched, but her parents did not survive. With very little to work with DS Nathan Cody and his team have their work cut out for them. Grasping at straws they know if they hope to find these children alive, they need to work fast. Cody is about to walk into the darkest case yet.

Any story about children is sure to touch all the sensitive spots. David Jackson manages to break my heart with Daisy. This little girl crawls into your heart and you are left sharing her confusing emotions from start to end. I could not drag myself away from this book.

While Cody is a brilliantly troubled man which the author did a great job creating, I think Daisy has stolen the limelight in this book. This child crawls into your heart as you get to know her. The way she has learnt how to survive, how to keep herself safe and then take responsibility for the other two children. You can expect to have this child tear your heart to bits. David Jackson did a brilliant job with this character.

Don’t Make a Sound is a sad book that leaves you heartbroken, okay children as a soft spot for me, but I loved this book, no doubt this is my favourite in the series so far.

Crime and thriller fans can expect a complete shocker when they reach for this book. It’s heartbreaking at times, but you will not be able to put this one down. If you have been following the series, you can expect more gory details and Cody facing yet another almost impossible challenge. If you haven’t read this one yet, get a copy, you are going to love it.

About The Author

Author bio from the author’s site

I am the author of a series of crime thrillers featuring Irish-American NYPD Detective Callum Doyle. The first in the series, Pariah, was Highly Commended in the Crime Writers Association Debut Dagger Awards. It is published by Pan Macmillan. The follow-ups are The Helper and Marked, and I am hard at work on the fourth in the series. My writing influences include Ed McBain, Dennis Lehane, George Pelecanos, Robert Crais, Michael Connelly and Harlan Coben, amongst many others. My favourite quote about my work is one from the Guardian, now carried on the front of my novels: ‘Recalls Harlan Coben – though for my money Jackson is the better writer.’

Thank you for stopping by and reading my review. I have one more book in this series to come and I cannot wait to sink my teeth into it. Have you read this series? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Until next time…Happy Reading!
