Destroy Me – Book Review

By Tahereh Mafi

This novella-length digital original bridges the gap between Shatter Me and Unravel Me from the perspective of the villain we all love to hate, Warner, the ruthless leader of Sector 45.

In Tahereh Mafi’s Shatter Me, Juliette escaped from The Reestablishment by seducing Warner—and then putting a bullet in his shoulder. But as she’ll learn in Destroy Me, Warner is not that easy to get rid of. . .

Back at the base and recovering from his near-fatal wound, Warner must do everything in his power to keep his soldiers in check and suppress any mention of a rebellion in the sector. Still as obsessed with Juliette as ever, his first priority is to find her, bring her back, and dispose of Adam and Kenji, the two traitors who helped her escape. But when Warner’s father, The Supreme Commander of The Reestablishment, arrives to correct his son’s mistakes, it’s clear that he has much different plans for Juliette. Plans Warner simply cannot allow.

Official Summary

Destroy me is the second book in the Shatter Me series.

It follows Warner and what happens at sector 45 after Juliette shot him and fled with Adam.  From him dealing with his gunshot wound to his father who comes for a visit, it is all very intriguing.

You get to see inside of Warner’s mind and see a more vulnerable side to him. You cannot help but sympathize with him when you hear his side of the story and especially when you meet his father, and you see how he gets treated by him.

This book makes you see Warner as a victim of his father, rather than the monster you see him as from Juliette’s point of view in the first book.

My favourite part of the book was seeing the dynamic relationship between Warner and Delalieu, which you do not see in the rest of the books. You see Delalieu as the only person in Warner’s life who means him no harm. He is there for him and just blindly follows Warner’s orders.

Destroy Me is my personal favourite of the entire series. I find that this one was just as emotional, but it is not as emotionally draining as it is to be in Juliette’s mind. Warner’s sarcasm and humour bring a little bit of light to the incredibly sad and tragic reality that is his life.

I would recommend the book, especially to readers who do not like Warner in the other books. This book might help you to relate to him and understand him better in the rest of the series.
