December in a Nutshell

This year has proven to be an extremely challenging year for all of us. We have all been wrapped up in the COVID-19 pandemic and the effect it’s had on our daily lives. Like, everyone, I have had my fair share, but I have the lockdown to thank for giving me time to finally start my book blog.

While I might be new to blogging, reading fiction is a passion that has been with me for a long time. I have had so much fun staring my blog and I am extremely proud of Alicia – my baby girl – for deciding to contribute a young adult point of view to the blog.

December has been a fun reading month and we managed to work our way through 11 reviews between the two of us. If you missed out, here is a brief overview of what we covered.

Posted: 01 December - The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

This book has been sitting on my pile for a while and I am disappointed in myself for not getting to this one sooner. I absolutely love Ruth Ware’s book and this title did not disappoint. I had fun read it. If you have not read this yet, be sure to add it to you TBR for 2021

Posted: 03 December - The Housemate by Nina Manning

An ARC from NetGalley. This was a little different from my normal reading selection, but I found this book wonderfully entertaining. Nin Manning did a wonderful job keeping me guessing and I will certainly keep an eye out for more of her books in the future.

Posted: 07 December - Restore Me by Tahereh Mafi

I gave Alicia the Shatter Me series for Christmas 2019, and she loved the books. She has been working on the reviews and we posted her review of Restore Me on the 7th. These might not be the latest releases, but they are lovely books and a good consideration if you have a young adult reader in your home. (Thank you to the sales team at Bargain Books The Grove for the suggestion.)

Posted: 08 December - Unseen by Karin Slaughter

Karin Slaughter is without a doubt my most underrated author. For some reason, her books seem to end up at the bottom of my TRB pile. This is sad because her writing is simply brilliant, every time I read one of her books I find myself in book heaven. Unseen is a brilliant read with lots of twists and turn to keep you guessing.

Posted: 10 December - Silent Voices by Patricia Gibney

WOW! Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book. I have never read anything by Patricia Gibney before, after reading Silent Voices – I am hooked. This is the 9th book in the series and in my review, I hinted that I would like the other books in this series. Since I have such a wonderful husband, he not only read my review, but he also got me the 8 books I have missed.  I look forward to working my way through them during 2021.

Posted: 15 December - Face of Evil by George Morris De’Ath

Without a doubt the creepiest book I have read in a while – that is not a complaint – I love creepy! Having never heard of this author before I did not expect much when I started this book, but what an amazing read. This is an extremely graphic book and I would not recommend this to the faint-hearted – but if creepy appeals to you, you will not be disappointed with this book….. get a copy – you will love it!

Posted: 16 December - Defy Me by Tahereh Mafi

Alicia added another review from the Shatter Me series. I am so proud of how committed she has been to her contribution to the blog. I might be a little biased but I think she is doing a great job with her reviews.

Posted: 18 December - The Magpie Society: One for Sorrow by Zoe Sugg & Amy McCulloch

We received this review copy from Penguin Random House South Africa on the 14th of December and Alicia simply flew through this book – four days later her review was posted.

Posted: 21 December - Void Fate by Suren G Hakobyan

The author approached me to review his book and being new to blogging I felt extremely honoured to have an author contact me directly. It was exciting and I could not wait to get started on this book. While Sci-Fi is not my genre of choice, I enjoyed reading this book and I was happy to post this review. Being able to assist in the promotion of books is why we choose to blog after all. Thank you to Suren Hakobyan for the opportunity.

Posted: 23 December - The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

With Christmas just around the corner, I cannot believe that we still manage to find the time to post reviews. Reading this review I am discovering just how opinionated my little girl is. I loved her review of this book, if you missed this one, have a look and remember to leave a comment.

Lisa Gardner has without a doubt been my author of choice this year. Before She Disappeared is the 15th Lisa Gardner book I have read this year and a perfect ending to my blogging year. I will try my best to finish this one and post my review before the new year is upon us.

Alicia

Ending December with 11 reviews posted feels like a pretty successful month to me. Thank you for spending some time with us this month. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, may 2021 bring you many wonderful new adventures in the form of good books! Until next year….. Happy Reading!
