Carrie

Author: Stephen King

Date read: 19 July 2011 (The second time)

Official Summary

A modern classic, Carrie introduced a distinctive new voice in American fiction — Stephen King. The story of misunderstood high school girl Carrie White, her extraordinary telekinetic powers, and her violent rampage of revenge, remains one of the most barrier-breaking and shocking novels of all time.

My thoughts:

Someone suggested that I allow my 10-year-old daughter to read this book. To make sure that I was not being unreasonable I reach for the book for a second time. After my second encounter with Carrie, I am still convinced that my little girl is not quite ready for this book.

Reading this book I was reminded about the pain we so easily inflict on those around us without even realising it. This book screams that we should watch out, we never truly know what someone else is dealing with and what our actions could lead them to do. Yes, this is a very scary story!

As time passed and my daughter got a little older, I did hand the book to her, I was just not ready to unleash Carrie on my 10-year-old.
