Blogaversary!

Three Years Blogging!

I would not normally share posts on a Saturday. Since starting the blog I have learnt the importance of taking time away from social media. Besides, Saturdays are reading time.

Today I am breaking that rule because it is not just any Saturday. Today is our third blogversary! That may not seem very significant, three years is not that long after all. Yet, I never expected that something I started doing to pass the time during COVID would become such a big part of my life. The blog has changed me.

I never skip my reading time anymore, no matter how hectic my day may be, I still make time to read – every day, without fail. I am very much aware of how often I post and strive to deliver a minimum of three reviews a week. Does anyone other than me care? I think my followers have come to expect it, and I am determined not to let them down.

Since going back to my day job there have been times when I was convinced that I would be forced to stop blogging, because my time is becoming a little less every day. Then I sit down with my laptop to write a review and I am reminded that I love this. Sharing a good story puts a smile on my face, and even if only one person decides to pick up a book I have recommended, then it is worth it.

I have often wished I could blog full time, spend all day every day reading and reviewing books, growing my social media accounts and just have fun spreading the word about new books. Unfortunately, that is never going to happen. Quitting my day job will mean that I cannot buy any more books. That is a very scary thought.

The blog has allowed me to spend more time with my daughter as we share our love for reading. She jumped on board right at the start sharing her first review three after I launched the blog. I have watched her grow as a reader while she explored new genres and every review she sends me reveals that my little girl is growing up and maturing. We have started buddy reading books which has turned dinner table conversations into book debates – much to the other family members’ annoyance.

I did not foresee the big part the blog would end up playing in my life, three years later I am still excited to share a review and eagerly wait for the comments that follow.

The figures show just how much fun we have had. Here are the blog’s first three years in numbers:

277 Review Posts

149 Blog Tour Stops

92 Reviews by Alicia

59 Other Posts

577 Posts in three years

Since starting the Blog – we have shared 518 book reviews with you!

(That is an average of 3.3 reviews per week)

I must say thank you to Alicia, she always comes to my rescue when I run out of time. Without her, I am not sure I would have managed to maintain a three-review-per-week average. Thanks, my love!

Thank you to Jonathan Ball Publishers and Penguin Random House South Africa – the local publishers who send us review copies and support our reading habits.

Thank you to NetGalley and all the international publishers who have shared books with us. Having you guys notice our passion for sharing the word about new books has been amazing!

Then a big THANK YOU, to Anne Cater from Random Things Tours – I have not been as active with blog tours this year, but you never forget about me. Thank you for the invites to tours, they are much appreciated.

Lastly, thank you to everyone who visits the blog, reads a review or leaves a comment. (My husband, Eric, is the first visitor on every blog post – thank you, babes – your support means the world.) The people following us on social media – where do you all come from? I am not working the social media accounts nearly as hard as I should and still the following has been overwhelming! Thank you to 2,148 followers on Instagram, to the 1,200 people who look at my Pinterest Pins every month and to the 3,912 people who decided to follow us on Twitter. You are the reason I stay up late at night to make sure I have a new book review to share. Thank you for your support!

Feel free to share! Sharing is Caring!
