August in a Nutshell

That's a Wrap!

There are only four months left in this year and I am starting to worry about reaching my Good Reads goal this year. I have toned down the blog tours and with the rush of a deadline taken away, I am left feeling as if I am not reading fast enough. How much do you read? I often feel as if I am just not getting through enough books. There are always so many books left that I still want to read. August is my birthday month and that means my TBR has grown yet again. My family understands the way to make me happy is by adding to my book collection.

Enough of me stressing about what I have read, here is an update of the reviews we have added to the blog this month. Just in case you missed them, here is the wrap-up.

02 August – Verity by Colleen Hoover

Alicia reviewed this book in February and she suggested that I should give it a try. I have not read anything by Colleen Hoover before and I am not sure if she was quite my cuppa tea. After reading this book I immediately ordered a copy of Layla. This was a true five-star read. I loved everything about this story and could not read it fast enough.

03 August – The Wicked King by Holly Black

After reading the first book I was so nervous about picking up the second one because I thought there was no way it could be better than the first. However, I can say with full confidence this book was one hundred times better than the first one which I will be honest I did not think was possible.

04 August – Hope to Die by David Jackson

This series has been sitting on my TBR for a while and last month I read the first one. I was hooked and made sure I made time for the other books in the series this month. This is a gory read, but I loved it and I could not get enough.

05 August – Hide and Seek by Andrea Mara

Andrea Mara is an author I would love to spend more time with. Her writing is gripping and intriguing and if you haven’t yet, then you really should add some of her work to your TBR.

08 August – All The Wicked Games by Lauren North

I accidentally stumbled across this book on NetGalley and after enjoying the previous book by Lauren North I jumped at the chance to add this one to my TRB. This author is full of surprises and this book had me hooked from start to finish.

10 August – The Apartment Upstairs by Lesley Kara

I was convinced that I have a few books by Lesley Kara on my bookshelf, so it was rather disappointing to find out that I only have one on my shelf. I need to fix that. Lesley Kara is a talented author that will leave your head spinning when you reach for one of her books and this one did not disappoint. This was a brilliantly twisty read.

12 August – Don’t Make a Sound by David Jackson

The third book in the DS Nathan Cody series. I was a tad bit disappointed that Waldo did not make an appearance in this one, but this story was heartbreaking and sad. This series has me hooked, the last one is on its way as well.

15 August – The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

This book was my first ever standalone fantasy which is strange considering how many fantasy books I have read. When I first picked up this book, I was afraid the world-building would be bad and that the story would feel rushed as opposed to the very drawn-out fantasy series I have read. And I am so happy I was wrong. This story is fast-paced and the world-building was awesome, I found I did not have a hard time keeping up at all from start to finish.

16 August – Freckles – by Cecelia Ahern

In 2021 this book was all over social media, so many people made a fuss about it. This is not my genre of choice but since I promised myself to step out of my comfort zone this year, this title seemed to be a good idea. This is a brilliant read and if you are keen to try something different then this contemporary read will keep you glued to the pages. I loved the characters and found myself looking at the people in my life when I finished reading this one.

19 August – Your Deepest Fear by David Jackson

The end of the series. I am going to miss DS Nathan Cody. I have spent so much time with these characters it feels as if I know them. David Jackson turned me into a fan with this series and I am eager to try some of his other books as well. (Perhaps I should wait until my TBR has shrunk a little because this author is addictive and starting a new series will mean I will need to finish it.)

22 August – The Family Remains by Lisa Jewell

I love Lisa Jewell’s writing, so when Penguin Random House had this title pop up there was no question about me adding it to my TBR. This is the sequel to The Family Upstairs and true to form I ended up reading book two first. I have added the previous book to my month-end shopping list and I cannot wait to dig into it.

24 August 2022 – The Bay by Allie Reynolds

This book has been all over social media and I could not wait to get my hands on it. I was super excited when my delivery arrived four days earlier than promised – that does not happen often. Naturally, this book jumped to the top of my TBR and what a fabulous read it was. This author’s second book was even better than her first. If you haven’t yet, add this one to your TBR – it is a wonderfully gripping read full of twists.

29 August 2022 – The Drif by C.J. Tudor

I have devoured all of C.J. Tudor’s books and The Drift – Coming January 2023 – is a brilliantly creative dystopian novel that I am sure was inspired by COVID. However, this is not just another COVID tale – this is a fantastic twisty tale that will keep you glued to the pages. Fans of this author are in for a treat with this one.

Book of the Month

Picking a book of the month was no easy feat this month. I have read so many brilliant books, where do I even start? I was tempted to go with Verity by Colleen Hoover, as this book, which Alicia recommended, was not what I expected. While it was a fabulous read which I would highly recommend, I am going to settle on The Bay by Allie Reynolds as my book of the month. This book had me flying from page to page and I simply could not get to the end fast enough. I loved this one, please get a copy if you haven’t yet – you do not want to miss this book.

That brings us to the end of another month. I have loved the books I read this month and hope you will add some of these titles to your TBR. Next month I have three blog tours scheduled and I look forward to working through some more of the books on my TBR – which is forever growing taller and taller. Until next month, Happy Reading!
