The Robert Hunter series has me hooked and I have tried to read at least one of the books every week to work through them. While all the books have been dark and rather disturbing, what takes this novel one step further is the opening note from the author.
“This novel differs immensely from my previous books, mainly because this is the first thriller I’ve written in which most of the plot and characters are based on real facts and the people I met during my criminal-behaviour-psychology days……”
It is one thing to read a crime thriller knowing it is mere fiction, created by an author with a bit of a warped imagination, but reading a book knowing ahead of time that it’s based on fact…. Well, I am left questioning why these books appeal to me.
An Evil Mind strikes a chilling chord with its disturbing realism. The fact that much of the plot and characters stem from real cases gives the story a dark edge. Chris Carter brings you face-to-face with evil through Robert Hunter’s encounters with a criminal who claims to be just a pawn, caught in a web of manipulation and hidden horrors. Hunter’s character, as usual, brings the blend of empathy and professional detachment needed for such a disturbing case. But even he seems unnerved as the twisted layers begin to unravel, each revelation more shocking than the last. Unlike the usual crime thriller, which may conclude with a sense of justice or relief, An Evil Mind lingers with you, forcing a deeper reflection on human nature and the thin line between fiction and reality.

I was born in Brasilia, Brazil where I spent my childhood and teenage years. After graduating from high school, I moved to the USA where I studied psychology with specialization in criminal behaviour. During my University years, I held a variety of odd jobs, ranging from flipping burgers to being part of an all male exotic dancing group.
I worked as a criminal psychologist for several years before moving to Los Angeles, where I swapped the suits and briefcases for ripped jeans, bandanas and an electric guitar. After a spell playing for several well-known glam rock bands, I decided to try my luck in London, where I was fortunate enough to have played for a number of famous artists. I toured the world several times as a professional musician.
A few years ago I gave it all up to become a full time writer.
Thank you for visiting the blog and reading my review. I did not think anything could be as dark and disturbing as Cody McFadyen’s books, but Chris Carter is proving me wrong. These books may not be for everyone, they are graphic and may be too harsh for sensitive readers. I am left shocked after each one I read, yet I keep racing back for more.
