It is almost embarrassing to admit that I am still reading this series – and that I have now read all six books! This is so completely out of character for me, especially considering how far this series is from my usual reading choices.
Everything about this series is so bad… but I think that is exactly what makes it so enjoyable to read. Even the name Dream Harbour is a total giveaway of what you are getting yourself into. This is a ridiculously quaint little town, filled with nosy inhabitants who all seem to know everyone else’s business, and yet, somehow, I have become rather fond of it. It has turned into a pleasant little escape from reality, and I find myself enjoying my visits more than I probably should.
In this instalment, Daisy and Elliot start out fake dating, which I am learning is a very popular trope in this genre. Of course, we all know where this is going. What starts out as a pretend romance soon develops into very real feelings, and before long, they have to admit that there is something genuine between them. Naturally, they end up together, and the obligatory steamy scenes follow.
One thing I particularly enjoyed about this book was the ending. We get a glimpse twenty years into the future, showing Daisy and Elliot still together and still very much in love – and apparently still enjoying a rather healthy sex life! I thought this was a fun way to finish their story and gave the book a lovely feel-good ending.
This series, while very far from my usual genre of choice, has turned out to be a surprisingly pleasant experience. I never expected to make it through all six books, but here we are! It has been fun to step away from my usual dark thrillers and spend some time reading something completely different.
There are no complicated murder investigations, disturbing crimes or twists that leave me questioning everything I have just read. Instead, there are quaint little towns, romance, nosy neighbours, predictable storylines and plenty of happy endings. And sometimes, that is exactly what you need.
The Dream Harbour series may be completely unrealistic and very much outside my comfort zone, but I have had a lot of fun with it. Perhaps I will even be brave enough to admit that I am looking forward to my next visit to Dream Harbour!
