The nightmare she’s running from is nothing compared to where she’s headed.
Tegan is eight months pregnant, alone, and desperately wants to put her crumbling life in the rearview mirror. So she hits the road, planning to stay with her brother until she can figure out her next move. But she doesn’t realize she’s heading straight into a blizzard.
She never arrives at her destination.
Stranded in rural Maine with a dead car and broken ankle, Tegan worries she’s made a terrible mistake. Then a miracle she is rescued by a couple who offers her a room in their warm cabin until the snow clears.
But something isn’t right. Tegan believed she was waiting out the storm, but as time ticks by, she comes to realize she is in grave danger. This safe haven isn’t what she thought it was, and staying here may have been her most deadly mistake yet.
And now she must do whatever it takes to save herself—and her unborn child.

Freida McFadden does it again—with a gripping psychological thriller that had me completely hooked from the first page. The Crash is a twisty, chilling, and claustrophobic read that had me furiously turning the pages while silently screaming “Don’t trust them!” at my Kindle.

We follow Tegan, a heavily pregnant woman fleeing a traumatic past, only to crash—literally—into a nightmare she never saw coming. Stranded in rural Maine during a snowstorm, she’s taken in by a seemingly kind couple… but this is a McFadden novel, so of course, things are never as simple or safe as they appear.

I loved how the isolation of the snowy setting added to the growing sense of dread. You can feel Tegan’s desperation and paranoia creeping in as the days pass and the couple’s overly generous hospitality starts to feel off. There’s an unsettling tension throughout, and the slow drip of information is masterfully done. Every time I thought I had things figured out, another twist hit—and I mean twists in true Freida fashion. Some made me gasp out loud.

Tegan herself is a compelling character—vulnerable yet strong, and I found myself rooting hard for her and her baby. The stakes feel incredibly high, especially with her physical limitations and the eerie remoteness of her new surroundings.

The final reveal? Wild. Satisfyingly dark with that signature “wait—what?” moment McFadden fans have come to love.

If you’re into thrillers that trap you in a creepy cabin, play with your sense of reality, and keep you second-guessing everyone, The Crash is for you. Just maybe don’t read it alone during a snowstorm…
