I read The Curfew in May last year, which was my introduction to T.M. Logan. Since then, I have added three more of his books to my TBR. I have finally had the time to read another one of them and The Holiday proved to be another great read from this author. This book is full of suspense and you race from page to page trying to find the truth. However, the truth turns out to be the last thing you would imagine.
This book is a brilliantly creative tale about friendship, trust and the lengths parents would go to to protect their children. Be ready for some late-night reading when you reach for this book.
The author quickly draws you into the family dynamics and before long you feel as if you know his characters intimately. However, when you least expect it, he delivers a twist that shows you how wrong you were. I loved the setting of this book and found it easy to imagine the villa and the vineyard that surrounded it. The various parenting styles that he includes in this book show exactly how parents’ behaviour influences their children.
Kate is excited about spending a week with her three oldest friends. They have known each other since university and haven’t seen much of each other in recent years. On the day they arrive at the beautiful villa in France, Kate discovers messages on her husband’s phone. She has known something had been going on, but she never imagined that her husband would have an affair with one of her friends.
Determined to find proof to confront him with, Kate finds she cannot confide in anyone. A week that should have been a wonderful family holiday quickly turns into torture as Kate spend all her time watching every interaction very closely.
I found myself completely engrossed in this book, eager to find out who betrayed Kate. I loved the constant doubt and the final twist was fantastic. The author did a brilliant job with the various family dynamics and the different parenting styles.
The characters were a wonderful mix. I enjoyed how the four women have changed over the years and how their lives took different turns. Kate with her need for the truth, no matter how heartbreaking was fantastic. I loved that she managed to find a way to do the right thing while still protecting her children.
This was a clever, creative story that kept me engrossed right to the end. I am happy to add this book to my loved list for 2023 and I am looking forward to making time for the other T.M. Logan books sitting on my TBR shelf.
If you are looking for a gripping mystery/thriller that will leave you reading late into the night while being caught up in the character’s family dynamics then I cannot recommend this book highly enough. If you have read The Holiday yet, be sure to add it to your TBR, you will not be disappointed.
